In many ways, disease has shaped human history. Our efforts to prevent and control disease have dramatically increased our knowledge of how our bodies work and how they are affected by the environments in which we live.
This course begins by asking “what is disease and what are its causes?” You’ll analyse some of the communicable and non-communicable diseases that can be addressed via public health methods. Explore a range of topics including concepts related to the development and spread of disease. Examine strategies developed to prevent and control disease. By the end of this course, you’ll have a stronger understanding of the many strategies, frameworks and responses that are in place across all levels (local, national and international) to reduce the harms associated with disease.

Single subjects are the individual components that make up a degree. With Open Universities Australia, you’re able to study many of them as stand-alone subjects, including postgraduate single subjects, without having to commit to a degree.
Each of your subjects will be held over the course of a study term, and they’ll usually require 10 to 12 hours of study each week. Subjects are identified by a title and a code, for example, Developmental Psychology, PSY20007.
First, find the degree that you would like to study on our website.
If that degree allows entry via undergraduate subjects, there will be information about this under the Entry Requirements section. You will find a list of 2-4 open enrolment subjects you need to successfully complete to qualify for admission into that qualification.
Once you pass those subjects, you will satisfy the academic requirements for the degree, and you can apply for entry.
