About this subject

  • At the completion of this unit students should be able to:

    1. Show an extensive knowledge of the historical period and its modern study, with a broad understanding of major historical developments in the Mediterranean in the late fourth to late sixth century, and the key concepts, events and figures of the period
    2. Display understanding of historical materials, with skills in analysing and discussing different types of documents and sources, and extracting data from them
    3. Show disciplinary research skills in the identification of sources of information (such as research tools, databases and online resources) and problem-solving skills in dealing with these resources
    4. Display communication skills with particular emphasis on the ability to discuss complex materials with their peers and teachers, the ability to reflect on research and organise materials, and to comprehend alternative views and respond to them profitably, and conduct sustained arguments in writing

    Students who have an Academic Standing of Suspension or Exclusion under Macquarie University's Academic Progression Policy are not permitted to enrol in OUA units offered by Macquarie University. Students with an Academic Standing of Suspension or Exclusion who have enrolled in units through OUA will be withdrawn.
