About this subject
On successful completion you will be able to:
- Apply techniques for addressing the impairments in wireless communication
- Create security risk assessment reports based on the identification and appraisal of various threats and attacks on wireless systems
- Apply suitable wireless network security architectures and settings for homes, enterprises and public environments
- Assess and evaluate potential and existing security risk levels and vulnerabilities in wireless systems
- Wireless transmission fundamentals
- Spread spectrum techniques in wireless communications and applications
- Fundamental concepts of security services (confidentiality, integrity and availability)
- Cryptography fundamentals including public and private key encryption techniques
- Wireless local area networks (WLAN) 802.11 security basics including Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA)
Due to the ubiquitous nature of mobile and wireless technology in our daily lives and business operation, ensuring wireless security is becoming a top priority. This subject explores the security vulnerabilities in wireless networks and cover the fundamental concepts of confidentiality, integrity and availability. The following key concepts will be covered: Wireless LAN Security - Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), Authentication Servers (RADIUS), 802.11i security standard; Securing Ad-Hoc Networks - MAC layer misbehaviour, secure routing protocols, types of attacks and solutions, key management, broadcast authentication.
