This subject examines the origins and development of corrective services in Australia. The correctional system is studied in terms of custodial and non-custodial sanctions, and considers special client populations including men, women, juveniles and Indigenous offenders. The issues of privatisation and deaths in custody are examined.
This subject provides an introduction to the corrections system in Australia, exploring the evolution and current state of corrective services through the lenses of principles, policies, and practices. Students will learn about the history and foundations of the corrections system, staff and client experiences in custodial and community corrections, and contemporary issues in corrections.
