About this degree
Upon successful completion, students will be able to:
- Identify, coherently explain and synthesise core and advanced logistics management concepts, practices and processes, including recent developments in the discipline
- Develop advanced cognitive skills to collect, analyse and interpret data to address typical problems emerging in logistics management and strategy
- Critically apply advanced logistics management knowledge, reasoning and analytical skills to make informed judgments and decisions in a real-world global setting
- Communicate clearly and in written and oral form with colleagues within and outside the discipline field advanced logistics management concepts and ideas
- Understand relevant factors in logistics management with ethical, social and legal impact in a global setting
The Master of Logistics Management (1.5 years of full-time study or equivalent) provides a comprehensive postgraduate course for people who wish to seek professional careers in the globally spanning domain of logistics management, logistics strategies and supply chain management. In this program, students acquire specific knowledge and skills to manage and coordinate logistics operations, as well as to formulate, design and implement logistics strategies and systems in a diverse range of industries such as manufacturing, retail, agribusiness, etc.
Students will obtain knowledge and skills to develop solutions for a range of complex issues faced by organisations engaged in both domestic and international logistics business activities. The core units of the program are in business logistics, supply chain management, strategic procurement, business analytics, warehousing. Core knowledge is enhanced by degree electives such as eLogistics, eCommerce logistics management, and project management. Students may opt to gain a better understanding of the maritime industry as a major element of global supply chains, with units such as port management, commercial shipping management.
Graduates are also able to enhance their managerial skills through units in human resource management, strategic management, lean thinking, and leadership. These sets of skills enrich managerial skills and analytical abilities to assist career progression to more senior roles.

Students undertaking the Master of Logistics Management complete units totalling 150 credit points. Students have the option to pursue either a full coursework option or a dissertation pathway.

Students wanting to undertake the Dissertation option need to meet with the Course Coordinator prior to enrolment to discuss a suitable research topic and for the appointment of a research supervisor.
Award requirements
Satisfactory completion of 12 subjects, as required in the schedule, within 4 years from commencement.
Exit points
Students who complete:
- Four units of the Master of Logistics Management may be eligible to exit with a Graduate Certificate in Logistics Management
- Eight units of the Master of Logistics Management may be eligible to exit with a Graduate Diploma of Logistics Management

Entry requirements
An undergraduate degree from an Australian higher education institution or the equivalent standard in any other institutions, or a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management, Maritime and Logistics Management or other relevant qualification
Successful completion of at least three of the following OUA subjects:
- TAS-JNB522, TAS-JNB524, TAS-JNB537, or TAS-JNB537
At least three (3) year managerial work experience.
The University of Tasmania grants credit and recognition of prior learning that may include formal and/or informal prior learning. More information is available here.

The diversity creates many opportunities for your career progression, both globally and domestically. For example, the logistics industry encompasses warehousing, road freight, air freight, freight forwarding and distribution.
Additionally, many organisations may have a primary focus on manufacturing or international business, which will necessitate that they have internal departments involved in logistics, supply chain management and international trade, creating more opportunities. Degree FAQs
How long does it take to finish an online degree?
That's up to you! Because we let you choose when to study online, you can actually pick up and pause study when it suits you. Many universities have a set time you need to complete your degree within. For some this is up to 10 years, and for others there is no limit.
There are some degrees that are stricter about when you can take breaks, and about how many years you can take to complete your degree. Please always check with your uni what the limits are.
As a general guide, Commonwealth supported place students have 10 years to finish their undergraduate degree through OUA, However, if you're studying with Griffith University, there's a limit of 8 years to complete your studies. If you want to take a break that lasts more than two study terms, you'll need to apply for a leave of absence. You can apply for a leave of absence for up to 12 months, as long as you complete your studies within the maximum time allowed for your degree.
If you're studying with Macquarie University, with the exception of certain degrees, there's no limit to how long you can take. But, please check with Macquarie Student Administration to be sure.
If you're studying with the University of Adelaide, you have up to 9 years to complete your undergraduate degree and graduate.
If you're studying with La Trobe University and want to take a break of minimum 1 study term, you must apply for leave of absence to avoid being inadvertently withdrawn from your degree.
Through OUA, you can study all year round, so it's possible to fast-track and finish up sooner than studying at a traditional uni would allow. That said, you need to spend around 12 hours a week on each undergraduate subject you do, so taking on extra work to finish ahead of time can be challenging.
How can I pay for my studies?
You may be eligible for a HELP loan from the Australian government, depending on your citizenship status and where you'll be living during your studies. You can also pay upfront with your credit card.
