Master of Global Public Health

Graduates of the Master of Global Public Health will demonstrate an appropriate depth of integrated knowledge of the practice of public health including:

1. Priority issues, populations and settings.
2. Contemporary interventions, systems and models of public health management and practice.
3. The role and application of research outputs including population level data to the planning of public health policy and practice.
4. The principles and methods that underpin research within public health planning, implementation and evaluation.
5. The application of public health knowledge and methods within International contexts and practice.

This program helps you to develop and further your career in public health practice, research and/or management. It allows you to re-orient your work interests in health to disease prevention and health promotion and is widely recognised both nationally and internationally as the public health credential for careers in public health.

The program focuses on the socio-ecological model of public health that emphasises and analyses the important interactions between the social, biological, economic and environmental determinants of health. It enables you to apply this analytical skill set to plan, implement and evaluate population-based interventions that protect and promote health.

The program has a strong focus on global health and provides you with the opportunity to focus your public health studies by selecting from a range of electives in areas such as public health nutrition, health promotion, climate change, planetary health, and health services management.

Award requirements

For the award of Master of Global Public Health (MGlobalPH), you must successfully Complete 160 credit points comprising:

• 40 credit points for all Foundation Module, and
• 80 credit points for all Core Module, and
• 40 credit points for Flexible Module

This degree may be awarded with Distinction where a student achieves a minimum program GPA of 6.5 with no failed courses. The words "This award was achieved with Distinction" will be recorded on the testamur.

Exit points

To be eligible to exit with the 3147 - Graduate Certificate in Public Health award, you must successfully complete 40 credit points of courses from this program.

To be eligible to exit with the 4094 - Graduate Diploma of Public Health award, you must successfully complete 80 credit points of courses from this program.

To be eligible to exit with the 5263 - Master of Public Health award, you must successfully complete 120 credit points of courses from this program.

To exit, you should apply for a program transfer. 

Note: If you exit with the 4094 - Graduate Diploma of Public Health award, you will not be eligible for admission to complete the 120 credit point 5263 - Master of Public Health program. However, you may be eligible for readmission to the 160 credit point 5725 Master of Global Public Health program and will be required to complete an additional 80 credit points from the program.

If you exit with the 5263 - Master of Public Health award, you will not be eligible for readmission to complete the 160 credit point 5725 Master of Global Public Health.

To be eligible for this program, you must meet all of the following criteria:

• a recognised Bachelor degree (or higher)

Students who wish to transfer from this program to the Master of Global Public Health must do so before graduating from the Master of Public Health.

English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows:

• A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0
• OR a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL
• OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19)
• OR no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only)
• OR a minimum overall score of 176 (no score less than 169) on C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) or C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English)
• OR an overall score of 58 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 50.

English test results must be no more than two years old.

International students who successfully complete the Direct Entry Program (DEP) will satisfy the English Language requirements for this Griffith degree.

The Direct Entry Program (DEP) is not available for Domestic students.
