What you'll learn

Graduates of the Master of Business will have:

  • a demonstrated advanced understanding of contemporary theories and issues in business, including strategy and leadership for sustainability, and of the relationship between the government and business.
  • a demonstrated advanced understanding of the principles and methods that underpin research within the field of business and an ability to apply those methods appropriately.

You will be prepared to use your extensive business skills in increasingly diverse settings and may find career opportunities in a variety of areas including not-for-profit, government and corporate organisations.

Students who complete the Dissertation pathway may be eligible for further Higher Degree Research study such as the Master of Philosophy or PhD program.

Entry requirements

Higher education

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Business, a student must:

  • hold any Bachelor degree (or higher) from a recognised university (or another tertiary institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum GPA of 4.0 (using a 7.0 point scale); OR
  • hold a related Bachelor degree or Graduate Certificate (or equivalent) from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum GPA of 4.0 (using a 7.0 point scale) - students will be eligible for 40 credit points of advanced standing; OR
  • hold a related Bachelor Honours or Graduate Diploma (or equivalent) from a recognised university (or another tertiary institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum GPA of 4.0 (using a 7.0 scale) - students will be eligible for 80 credit points of advanced standing; OR
  • hold a Griffith Graduate Certificate in Policy Analysis (or equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 4.0 (using a 7.0 scale) - students will receive 40 credit points of credit; OR
  • have a combination of alternative admission criteria such as formal, informal and non-formal learning deemed to be equivalent to one of the above.

Note: Relevant work experience will be considered as part of an application.

English Proficiency Requirements

English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows:

  • A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0
  • OR a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL
  • OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19)
  • OR no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only)
  • OR a minimum overall score of 176 (no score less than 169) on C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) or C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English)
  • OR an overall score of 58 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 50.

English test results must be no more than two years old.

International students who successfully complete the Direct Entry Program (DEP) will satisfy the English Language requirements for this Griffith degree.

This program includes a dissertation pathway. The dissertation pathway can provide a pathway to a higher degree by research for candidates with the qualifying GPA.

Recommended Study Pattern

This program is offered full-time and part-time at the Nathan, Gold Coast and Online. You may choose to study courses at other campuses where the program structure allows.

Students are advised that some courses are offered through Open Universities Australia (OUA). Students who wish to enrol in these courses should refer to the OUA website for additional information.

Award Requirements

To be eligible for the award of Master of Business (MBus), a student must successfully complete 160 credit points, made up of core courses AND:

  • 40 credit points for one major, OR
  • 40 credit points from across the majors; AND
  • 40 credit points for a second major, OR
  • 40 credit points from across the majors / listed electives, OR
  • 40 credit points for the dissertation pathway.

To be eligible for the award of Master of Business (MBus), a student admitted with 40 credit points of advanced standing must successfully complete 120 credit points, made up of core courses AND:

  • 40 credit points for one major, OR
  • 40 credit points from across the majors; AND
  • 40 credit points for a second major, OR
  • 40 credit points from across the majors / listed electives, OR
  • 40 credit points for the dissertation pathway.

To be eligible for the award of Master of Business (MBus), a student admitted with 80 credit points of advanced standing must successfully complete 80 credit points, made up of core courses AND:

  • 40 credit points for one major OR
  • 40 credit points from across the majors.

This degree may be awarded with Distinction where a student achieves a minimum program GPA of 6.5 with no failed courses. The words 'This award was achieved with Distinction' will be recorded on the testamur.
