Master of Agribusiness

During this course, students will:

1. Access some of the best animal and agricultural facilities in the Southern Hemisphere across more than 1,000 hectares of subtropical farmland.
2. Benefit from regular contact with practising managers and their businesses through a hands-on approach to learning.
3. Gain exposure to the latest technological advancements in agriculture through practical and industry engagement.

This program is designed for recent business, agricultural or rural science graduates, and for established professionals wanting to upgrade their management skills or redirect their career into agribusiness.

Select from more than 20 courses providing you with specialised knowledge of modern agribusiness practices, emerging technologies, business communication and the latest sustainability practices.

Our academics and industry experts share actionable insights on contemporary agribusiness issues such as sustainability, globalisation, food security and international trade. You'll learn how agribusinesses from different contexts could respond to global opportunities and challenges.

You’ll explore all aspects of the supply chain to confidently work with small- and large-scale producers, processors, transporters, financial institutions, and Australian and international retailers to deliver high-quality and affordable products.

With courses in accounting, marketing, logistics and effective stakeholder engagement, you will position yourself as a future business leader.

Choose to complete a research project on a topic of your choice and increase your technical and research skills. Work alongside some of UQ's leading academics and researchers, or in an industry setting.

Graduate with a market-oriented focus, commercial awareness, an innovative and heightened global outlook, and the required technical skills to work in the food and fibre industries in managerial, administrative or research roles.

Recommended study pattern

The Master of Agribusiness is a 2 year course for a full-time student. Each year consists of 2 Study Periods, also known as semesters. The recommended study pattern consists of 8 core subjects and 8 elective subjects, with 8 to be completed in your first year and 8 in your second.

Award requirements

To qualify for the Master of Agribusiness, students must satisfactorily complete a program of study consisting of 16 subjects.

To be eligible to complete the degree in 2 years full-time (or part-time equivalent), you'll need:

• a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline, or
• a graduate certificate or graduate diploma in agribusiness, or
• to have successfully completed at least 3 years of study towards an approved qualification at an overseas partner institution, with a formal pathway to the Master of Agribusiness.

You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 4.5 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification.

To be eligible to complete the degree in 1.5 years full-time (or part-time equivalent), you'll need:

• a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in business or marketing, or
• to have successfully completed at least 3.5 years of study towards an approved qualification at an overseas partner institution, including research requirements, with a formal pathway to the Master of Agribusiness.

You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 4.5 on a 7-point scale in your previous degree.

All applicants must satisfy the UQ English language proficiency requirements for admission.

If you've completed previous study, you may be eligible to receive credit for – or exemption from – certain subjects in a UQ program.

You'll have the option to complete up to 160 hours of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) through an elective placement course as part of your program. You can undertake an elective placement during the Winter or Summer break in an approved workplace related to your studies.
