Career opportunities

Graduates of this course can apply for provisional registration (Graduate Teacher) with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA), while enrolled in their last term of study. Graduates are encouraged to review the TRBWA requirements for Provisional Registration.

In New South Wales, at the completion of the Graduate Diploma in Teaching, students MUST be enrolled in a nationally accredited Master of Teaching course, such as the Southern Cross University Master of Teaching, to be eligible for NSW conditional accreditation. For all other states and territories, students are encouraged to refer to their state or territory teacher regulatory requirements for provisional teacher registration.

Some graduates may pursue work in a range of education and non-education settings including roles such as education consultant, community education leader, learning designer, tutor, teacher aide, literacy or numeracy coach.

Professional recognition

The Southern Cross University Graduate Diploma of Teaching is formally recognised by the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA). Applicants to the TRBWA are encouraged to review the requirements for Provisional Registration. Please also refer to the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) teacher registration requirements for English Language proficiency as this may have implications for State or Territory teacher registration.

The Graduate Diploma of Teaching is not accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) but offers articulation into a NESA-approved Master of Teaching to enable full eligibility for registration as a teacher, once complete.

Note: Graduates of this course receive eight units of credit towards the Southern Cross University Master of Teaching.
