The Graduate Certificate of Advanced Wound Care provides an opportunity for students to gain post graduate education in the care and management of wounds in all healthcare settings. Post graduate education targeted to the specialty of wound care is limited in Australia, but necessary to decrease healthcare acquired complications. Delayed wound healing can increase a patient’s length of stay in hospital, or a have prolonged need for outpatient/community wound care services, which impacts costs to both the health service and the patient. This course provides advanced theoretical concepts concerning the assessment and management of simple and complex wounds with course content developed and delivered by experts in the specialty of wound care and management. Applicants are expected to have some working experience in the care and management of wounds as unit discussions and assessment will require you to draw upon this experience.

This subject is designed to foster knowledge and understanding of the concepts and practices of routine and advanced wound therapies. Advancements in Comprehensive Wound Care

Wound care and infection prevention is a rapidly growing clinical area leading the way for tissue management, infection control, diagnosis, and assessment of critical issues in wound management.  Technologies such as digital, e-health and app-based sources are being rapidly absorbed into clinical practice. With a growing plethora of advanced wound therapies such as interactive dressings, tissue substitutes, and negative pressure wound therapy there are many tools in the clinician’s armamentarium for wound prevention and management.  This subject will investigate contemporary wound assessment and diagnostic modalities and the role of the digital technologies for wound management. The subject will also investigate the different types of advanced healing therapies, dressings, and devices available for clinical use and critically evaluate the evidence and clinical utility in specific health care settings and regions with a patient centric focus.  Following completion of the subject, students will be able to describe current diagnostic, assessment and clinical management therapies and critically evaluate theories and concepts with respect to the evidence using a patient centric focus.Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online. Contemporary Wound Management Therapies

This subject is designed to foster knowledge and understanding of the concepts and practices of wound assessment across a variety of different wound types. Participants will develop an understanding of comprehensive assessments of surgical wounds, pressure injuries, leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, burns, trauma, flaps and grafts, fistulas, skin tears and lacerations.
