About this subject
On completing this subject, students will be able to:
- Research future advances to cancer screening, diagnosis and management.
- Review current treatments and therapies for cancer including preparation and recovery trajectories.
- Analyse the physical, emotional, and social impact of the therapies on people living with cancer, and caregivers.
- Describe optimal models of care and their application in collaboration with the person living with cancer and the interprofessional team.
- Appraise the risks and benefits of selected therapies to inform decision-making.
- Surgical oncology and chemotherapy, radiation oncology and haematology, immunotherapy and stem cells, targeted therapy and hormone therapy, clinical trials, delivery of cancer therapies
This subject provides an in-depth exploration of the latest advancements in cancer screening, diagnosis, and management. It aims to enhance students' understanding of current treatments and therapies for cancer, including preparation and recovery trajectories. Students will analyse the physical, emotional, and social impacts of these therapies on patients and their caregivers. The unit emphasises the importance of collaborative care, guiding students to describe optimal treatment pathways in conjunction with multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) and the person living with cancer. Additionally, students will appraise the risks and benefits of various therapies to inform effective decision-making.
