About this subject
On completing this subject, students will be able to:
- Examine the impact of cancer diagnosis and treatment across the lifespan.
- Appraise current epidemiological data to describe the context of cancer in Australia and compare with historical, future and global trends.
- Explain the biological, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual influences on the unique experience of living with cancer.
- Interpret the current knowledge related to cancer risk factors, screening, development, and disease progression.
- Identify evidence-based comprehensive cancer nursing assessment approaches.
- Epidemiology, cancer biology, screening/staging/assessment, cancer across the lifespan, experience of cancer, future directions
This subject explores essential aspects across the spectrum of cancer including cancer epidemiology, the diverse experiences of cancer, cancer biology, assessment and diagnosis processes, and the role of primary health care in cancer prevention and screening programs. Throughout the subject , interdisciplinary perspectives are integrated, and ethical considerations in cancer care are addressed, preparing students to engage critically with current challenges and future advancements in cancer research and treatment.

Assessment in this subject includes an exam. Majority of OUA students will be required to complete their final exam remotely online (Remote eExam) via myMurdoch Learning (LMS), using Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor. You will require a device meeting the minimum standards with a webcam, microphone, and stable internet connection and perform a one-time installation of ‘Respondus LockDown Browser’ using the unique Murdoch link. You are required to complete the mandatory practice quiz before the start of the exam period to ensure a smooth experience on the day.
