Extending Understanding of Primary English and Literacy
About this subject
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- Analyse critical components of literacy instruction.
- Identify and apply evidence-based literacy strategies for instruction in reading and writing.
- Design planning, differentiation and assessment strategies for reading comprehension and writing production.
- Utilise the Australian Curriculum English to plan teaching for learners.

This subject builds on the theoretical foundations of EMT506 (Foundations of Primary English and Literacy) and will extend your understanding of literacy instruction with a more detailed theory of language context model which supports reading comprehension and writing production. Further to this, there is a strong focus on the teaching of reading and viewing of literary texts, where text selection and differentiation takes centre stage.
