Critically analyse the principles of educational assessment and evaluation.
Apply the principles of quality assessment and evaluation practices.
Create different types of assessment strategies that are fit for purpose including appropriate tasks and marking criteria and standards.
Engage in moderation, calibration and benchmarking activities and use these as strategies to improve the quality of designs for learning and assessment.
Examine and respond to current common trends in assessment and evaluation in higher education.
Good assessment and evaluation in Higher Education has the potential to improve student learning, satisfaction, confidence in academic standards and retention. This subject allows teachers in higher education to advance their understanding of contemporary assessment practice by a critical engagement with contemporary assessment literature. From this foundation, students have the opportunity to examine how assessment is woven into the teaching and learning cycle and design and develop assessment instruments appropriate to Higher Education.
