Architectural Practical Experience
About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- gain an understanding of the workings of an architectural practice
- understanding stages of Architectural project from inception to delivery and post occupancy
- demonstrating professionalism at work place.
- As this is practical experience unit, there are no set topics.
This subject aims to provide students with a minimum 100 hours of relevant practical experience. The intent is for students to find an architectural, building or engineering firm, offering relevant work experience placement, focusing on design and construction learning opportunities.

Part of a degree
To enrol in this subject you must be accepted into one of the following degrees:
Core
- CUR-MAA-MAS-2024 - Master of Architecture
Elective
- CUR-FAST-MAS-2024 - Fast track your Curtin on campus study (Postgraduate)
Additional requirements
- Placement requirements - As part of this core subject, students need to complete 100 hours of internship in a host organisation (E.g. Architectural practice, Government organisation, construction company, etc.). Students are strongly encouraged to start looking for their own placement early, however the School will offer limited placements through a competitive, merit-based EOI process. After an initial agreement from a host organisation, students must contact dbewil@curtin.edu.au to allow the School to follow-up and process legal arrangements. Individual Student meetings may be held with Unit Coordinator, as required.
Study load
- 0.125 EFTSL
- This is in the range of 10 to 12 hours of study each week.
Equivalent full time study load (EFTSL) is one way to calculate your study load. One (1.0) EFTSL is equivalent to a full-time study load for one year.
