Molecular imaging is a form of biomedical imaging, which is rapidly growing in importance in the applied life sciences and contributes in the advancement of biomedicines. The Master of Molecular Imaging Technology aims at developing international leaders in molecular imaging through this unique program taught by molecular imaging experts supported by state-of-the-art facilities. In this program students will have the opportunity to undertake courses and engage with a molecular imaging research project.

Students will have the opportunity to undertake a semester-long molecular imaging research project under the guidance of an academic supervisor. A two-week residential component at the start of the course adds to the research training.

This program suits people with background in chemistry, biology, physics, computer science, engineering, radiography and nuclear medicine technology who wish to gain an in-depth knowledge in molecular imaging.

Recommended study pattern

The Master of Molecular Imaging Technology is a 1.5 year course for a full-time student. The recommended study pattern consists of 4 core subjects and 8 elective subjects, with 4 to be completed in your first study period, 4 in your second and 4 in your third.

Award requirements

To qualify for the Master of Molecular Imaging Technology, students must satisfactorily complete a program of study consisting of 12 subjects.

To be eligible for entry, you'll need: 

• a bachelor's degree in applied science, medical imaging, chemistry, pharmacy, physics, computer science or electrical and biomedical engineering or an approved discipline.

You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification.

All applicants must satisfy the UQ English language proficiency requirements for admission.

If you've completed previous study, you may be eligible to receive credit for – or exemption from – certain subjects in a UQ program.
