  • Apply a ‘person first’ perspective to analyse and solve issues and challenges associated with mental health.
  • Improve educational outcomes by supporting people through complex mental health challenges.
  • Design and evaluate inclusive, ethical and effective learning environments.

Entry requirements

Higher education

  • A completed qualification at AQF Level 7 (Bachelor degree) or above from an Australian University OR
  • An equivalent overseas higher education qualification.
Credit for previous study or work
Torrens University offers pathway opportunities to further your learning. If you have already completed a qualification you may be able to credit this against a degree with Torrens University, even if it’s from another institution. This is called Recognition of Prior Learning. Under Torrens University's Recognition of Prior Learning policy, you may be eligible for a reduction in tuition costs if you have previous study and/or work experience. Description

This course provides advanced knowledge and skills, focusing on three core issues – anxiety, depression and eating disorders. It improves both understanding of and the ability to apply positive support services directly into a range of learning environments.

You will attain an understanding of issues faced by mainstream teachers educational practice, and advanced knowledge and skills in supporting individuals with mental health challenges. This course offers a model of support and flexible tailored learning to suit individual student needs.

This is not an accredited Australian Initial Teacher Education course and therefore does not qualify the student to teach in Australia.

Award Requirements

To qualify for the Graduate Certificate of Education (Mental Health), students must complete all 3 core subjects and 1 elective subject. A combined total of 40 credit points is required.
