Diploma of Information Technology
About this degree
Graduates of Diploma of Information Technology will have a broad and coherent body of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) knowledge and skills. The categories of the ICT core body of knowledge (CBOK) (as defined by the Australian Computer Society) are:
- ICT professional knowledge. This includes ethics, professional expectations, teamwork concepts and issues, interpersonal communication, societal/legal issues, privacy, and understanding of the ICT profession.
- ICT problem solving. This is the knowledge of how to use modelling methods and processes to understand problems, handle abstraction and design solutions.
- Technology resources. This includes hardware and software fundamentals, data and information management, and networking.
- Technology building. This includes human factors, programming, system development, and system acquisition.
- ICT Management. This includes IT governance and organisational issues, IT Project management, service management, and cyber security.
The Brisbane South (Nathan) offering of this program is scheduled to be delivered at the Treasury Building at our Brisbane City campus in 2027. If scheduled opening is delayed, courses may be delivered all or in part at our other Brisbane locations.
The Diploma of Information Technology is a pathway program designed to help you transition into the Bachelor of Information Technology. You'll develop foundational knowledge and skills in a supportive learning environment, setting you up for success in your future studies.
You'll study academic foundations courses on computer systems and networks, coding, systems development, and human-computer interaction, with additional support and access to a dedicated First Year Coordinator and (PASS) run by high-achieving students. You'll also have the opportunity to undertake an elective course of your choice to tailor your studies. You'll learn in purpose-built, industry-leading facilities from world-class researchers and lecturers who have sent robots into space and predicted the outcome of federal elections using big data.

This diploma is offered full-time and part-time at the Brisbane South (Nathan) and Gold Coast campuses and online. Award requirements
For the award of Diploma of Information Technology (DipIT), you must successfully
Complete 80 credit points comprising:
- 60 credit points for all Core Module , and
- 20 credit points from Griffith UniversityFlexible Module

Entry requirements

Griffith University's Admission Policy will apply.
English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows:
- A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0
- OR a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL
- OR an internet-based (iBT)Â TOEFLÂ score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19)
- OR no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only)
- OR a minimum overall score of 176 (no score less than 169) on C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) or C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English)
- OR an overall score of 58 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 50.
English test results must be no more than two years old.

International students who successfully complete the Direct Entry Program (DEP) will satisfy the English Language requirements for this Griffith degree.
The Direct Entry Program (DEP) is not available for Domestic students.

This diploma prepares you for entry to a bachelor's degree, where you can receive credit for courses completed. You'll also have the option of graduating with the diploma ready for entry-level opportunities in system and business analysis, software development, network administration, and web and app development. In addition, you'll be prepared for an IT career in commerce, industry, corporate IT, government or private consulting.
