About this degree
Graduates of the Diploma of Commerce will have:
- the foundation knowledge required to proceed to study in a broader body of knowledge that underpins theory, practice and professionalism in areas such as financial markets, investments, taxation, risk management.
- technical and theoretical knowledge of ethical principles, standards and practices in the collection and analysis of data and provision of professional accounting, finance and economics advice.
- foundational knowledge required to work in a wide range of settings in the government and non-government and other industry sectors.
The Brisbane South (Nathan) offering of this program is scheduled to be delivered at the Treasury Building at our Brisbane City campus in 2027. If scheduled opening is delayed, courses may be delivered all or in part at our other Brisbane locations.
The Diploma of Commerce is a pathway program designed to help you transition into the Bachelor of Commerce. You'll develop foundational knowledge and skills in a supportive learning environment, setting you up for success in your future studies.
Through the Diploma of Commerce curriculum, you'll acquire technical skills and knowledge in various fields such as accounting, finance, economics, and beyond. Dive into the core concepts of commerce, including accounting principles, economic theories, business statistics, and effective management strategies.
You'll also receive additional support and access to a dedicated First Year Coordinator and Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS), run by high-achieving students.

As part of your application, you'll be guided through how to get the right degree structure in place for you.
This program is offered full-time and part-time on-campus and online. You may also choose to study courses at other campuses if or where the program structure allows.
As a full-time student, you will generally attend 12-15 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the trimester. As a part-time student, you will generally attend 6-8 hours of scheduled classes per week.

Griffith University's Admission Policy will apply.
English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows:
- A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0
- OR a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL
- OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19)
- OR no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only)
- OR a minimum overall score of 176 (no score less than 169) on C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) or C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English)
- OR an overall score of 58 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 50.
English test results must be no more than two years old.

International students who successfully complete the Direct Entry Program (DEP) will satisfy the English Language requirements for this Griffith degree.
The Direct Entry Program (DEP) is not available for Domestic students.
