This course will further develop students’ Tibetan language skills at the high intermediate level. They will explore more uses of the language that will deepen their understanding of Tibetan culture, such as its operas and classics, paying particular attention to the well-known story of Tibet’s most famous saint, Milarepa. This course will also extend its reach across the Tibetan Plateau and into the Himalayan ranges by introducing the students to regional Tibetan languages, such as Kham Tibetan, Amdo Tibetan, and Bhutanese.

In this course, Tibetan language students will begin to broaden their study of the language. They will learn to speak and understand more complex colloquial sentences. They will learn basic honorifics that will enable them to speak with a broader range of people. They will begin to engage with a wider range of literary genres and spend time analysing these texts as well as reading them. This study will give them more confidence to engage with secular and religious texts. As part of this engagement, they will learn poetic sayings that will improve their colloquial Tibetan. They will also learn about several famous folk tales and how to tell jokes!The students will continue to work through interactive lessons specifically designed for them and they will continue to have access to online tutorials with a renowned Tibetan author.

This subject will build on students&#39; basic knowledge of the Tibetan Language in both its spoken and literary forms. It includes: (a) Development of conversational skills in Tibetan to include complex sentences; (b) Further explanation of the grammar of spoken and written Tibetan; (c) Reading of graded texts in the Tibetan script.

Progress your pursuit of Tibetan, as you develop your speaking and writing. Begin to have conversations as you develop the skill to construct complex sentences. Get a deeper understanding of Tibetan grammar, and read texts in Tibetan script. 

This subject introduces students to the Tibetan Language in both its spoken and literary forms. It includes:<ol><li>Development of conversational skills in Tibetan;</li><li>Instruction in reading and writing the Uchen script as used for Tibetan;</li><li>Explanation of the grammar of spoken and written Tibetan;</li><li>Reading of graded texts in the Tibetan script.</li></ol>

Take a journey into the heart of the language of Tibet. Explore the ins and outs of the Tibetan Uchen script and use it to construct written words and sentences. Understand simple Tibetan texts. Pose queries in the language and answer questions.
