Griffith University’s Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice, offered through Open Universities Australia, is a broad-based social science degree examining crime, the criminal justice system and related social issues. This degree focuses on the causes of crime and society&#39;s response to crime. Bachelor of Arts

Globally, financial crime and money laundering costs companies, governments and individuals more than $1.45 trillion, according to the World Economic Forum. Additionally, compliance obligations are ever evolving as regulatory requirements, technology advances and inefficient operations cause rise to new and various risks that need to be mitigated. The Master of Financial Crime Investigation and Compliance will equip you with the knowledge you need to ensure compliance with various local and global regulations, as well as the tools you need to investigate inappropriate or illegal use of funds.This program is offered full-time and part-time at Nathan and Online in Trimester 1 and Trimester 2. With some courses also available at other campuses, you may choose to study a combination of online and on-campus.

Master of Financial Crime Investigation and Compliance

This double degree combines criminology and criminal justice practices in addressing crime and its causes, as well as in-demand business skills incorporating adaptivity, creativity, diversity and sustainable business practices. From first year onwards you&#39;ll be given practical skills to increase your employability through internships, mentoring, and workshops, and in your second and third years you&#39;ll choose a business major and narrow your focus into a key area of criminology and criminal justice, based on your interests and desired career. You&#39;ll develop valuable analytical skills, honing your ability to assess market trends, formulate effective business strategies, and navigate the complexities of the corporate world. At the same time, you&#39;ll learn about the current trends in crime in Australia and overseas. Academic and professional experts will explain proven ways that crime can be examined, prevented and reduced. You&#39;ll participate in courses that include the police, courts and criminal law, forensic psychology and homicide.  Both your business and criminology skills will be founded in principles to ensure you have a positive impact on communities and the environment, locally or globally, both for now and into the future.This degree is offered full-time and part-time at the Nathan/Mt Gravatt and Gold Coast campuses and online. You may choose to study courses on-campus, online or a combination of modes to suit your requirements. You may also choose to study courses at other campuses if or where the program structure allows.As a full-time student, you will generally attend 12-15 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the trimester. As a part-time student, you will generally attend 6-8 hours of scheduled classes per week.Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week.

In this subject, we study the roles of various actors that interact in the courtroom, such as judges, juries, expert witnesses, eyewitnesses, victims and defendants.null; The subject introduces interdisciplinary literatures: criminology, law and society/socio-legal studies, and psychology.null; Topics include the social dynamics of juries, judicial discretion, the validity of forensic science and the role of expert testimony, the reliability of eyewitness testimony, an examination of mental health courts and indigenous justice, and the prevalence of wrongful convictions.

Gender, Crime and Justice

This subject examines the origins and development of corrective services in Australia. The correctional system is studied in terms of custodial and non-custodial sanctions, and considers special client populations including men, women, juveniles and Indigenous offenders. The issues of privatisation and deaths in custody are examined.This subject provides an introduction to the corrections system in Australia, exploring the evolution and current state of corrective services through the lenses of principles, policies, and practices.
