This subject was previously known as Imagining Health in Social and Cultural Contexts.An introduction to sociological and anthropological perspectives on health, wellbeing illness and disability in society; understanding the contribution of the biomedical and social models of health for transdisciplinary practice for nurses and allied health: professionals. Incorporating contemporary, historical, social and cultural perspectives in local and global contexts to identify social determinants of health. Understanding traditional healing and other healing practices within a diverse community to cultural safe, secure and competent care, which is necessary to build individual and community empowerment. Recognising the impact of gender, sexuality, disability, migration, being a refugee, internally displaced person or member of any marginalised population on health. Explore what it means to be healthy and well. You’ll look into factors like gender, income, and education, to find out how they can influence health. Touch on traditional healing. Observe how healthcare professionals respond to challenging situations.

This subject explores contemporary issues of culture, equity, values, and social justice in early childhood pedagogy. Historical and contemporary images of childhood, and their relationship to images of teaching, are examined. Diverse family and community contexts are investigated, with a focus on promoting early childhood settings and services as democratic forums that are welcoming to and respectful of all cultures and beliefs. Children’s rights perspective is emphasised, and anti-bias approaches are analysed with a view towards enhancing reconciliation between diverse cultures and communities. Family and Community Contexts

This subject was previously known as Community Education and Consciousness Raising.This subject examines human rights education based on the premise that education is not a neutral exercise. Drawing on theories and practices derived from critical theory, critical pedagogy, democratic education and community education, students critically explore their place in and relationship with the world, and the power of education as a means for transformation.
