This subject will focus on the tax administration of the Australian taxation system. The subject is designed to introduce students to the way in which the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) administers income tax legislation and associated legislation such as the Taxation Administration Act.

Fundamentals of Tax Administration

In this subject you will be introduced to the regulatory environment in which applied science enterprises operate. In particular, you will explore the regulatory challenges of product safety, biosecurity and environment protection, as well as business practices inherent in product development, manufacture and commercialisation. You will gain familiarity with various bodies (including local, state and federal government) that regulate applied science enterprises, learn how various tools including Australian and international standards support regulatory compliance by business, and apply your knowledge to explore questions of compliance in work-based scenarios.

Regulatory Challenges

This subject explores the nature of contracts in business to business relationships. You will examine the legalities surrounding contracts, including different types of contracts and important clauses. You will also learn the processes involved with contract administration, including contract variations, performance management and dealing with contract disputes, both from a contractor and client perspective. Through a case study analysis, you will investigate and resolve issues related to supplier performance and dispute resolution. As a major assessment task, you will develop an organisational contract management artefact to assist others with managing contracts.

Managing Contracts

No matter what construction profession you enter, a fundamental knowledge of law and contract administration is essential to your career.  Law touches upon the construction industry in many ways through legislation, law of contract, law of torts and equity law. Contract Administration

The purpose of this subject is to provide students with a capstone experience where they draw on their previous subjects throughout the MBA journey to tackle a major global strategic issue relevant to their sector. The MBA equips students with knowledge, learning and new skills to understand the broader business aspects managers require. In doing so, various aspects of business management are addressed, including organisational behaviour, financial decision making, economics, marketing, operations management and strategy. The MBA capstone subject requires students to identify a global strategic issue at a level of importance such that the issue can significantly change the way organisations in a sector operate in the future. Students are tasked with identifying and framing the global issue and developing a pathway that draws on strategy, and at least three (3) other disciplines (e.g. finance, human resources, marketing), to identify how their organisation will address the issue. Students who complete the subject will be better prepared to put in place actions that consider the dynamics of a changing global business environment, the broader context of an organisation and how different functions need to be aligned and integrated to solve complex strategic challenges. As this is a subbject focused on synthesis, integration and the application of previous learning across the entire MBA, no new content will be introduced. MBA Capstone

The purpose of this subject is to develop skills and competencies for creating, implementing and monitoring organisational strategy. The subject explores the practices and concepts that drive the choices and actions that lead to a successful strategy. Through the introduction of appropriate theoretical models and relevant practical frameworks, students will understand the fundamental building blocks of strategy, which will allow them to put in place solutions to developing and implementing better strategies and monitoring their effectiveness. Both classic strategy principles and contemporary strategy thought will be explored. Organisational Strategy

The purpose of this subject is to develop skills and competencies for leading and managing business sustainability in the global context. The unit explores both challenges and opportunities inherent in the interface between economic, environmental and social requirements, and applies key theories, concepts, frameworks and solutions to those requirements. Students will understand how economic, environmental and social requirements are integral and interrelated parts of the global and geo-political landscape within which businesses operate. This subject focuses on organisational behaviour at an individual, group and organisational level, encompassing issues that are changing the way work is conducted, organised and managed. It also considers improving organisational effectiveness. Local and international case studies are analysed. Participants will consider practical and theoretical approaches adopted by organisations to improve and enhance the quality of leadership and management in the workplace. Leaders, therefore, must be cognisant of contemporary issues that are or will impact the organisation, its people and the communities in which they operate. Leaders must make informed decisions as to the most appropriate response to mitigate risk, leverage opportunity and maintain relevance.As part of a suite of subjects examining leadership and the central function of organisational capability development, the premise of this subject is to generate curiosity about global issues and local consequence for leaders. It aims to connect current affairs to the development of capability to respond appropriately to identified or possible consequences. The subject encourages you to think more expansively about contemporary issues, particularly those on a global scale but with local or regional impact utilising learning generated from other subjects in the Leadership and Organisational Capability suite.

Contemporary Issues in Organisational Leadership

This subject provides an applied approach to the key components of integrated logistics systems, such as procurement, inventory management and transport, whilst also viewing the system holistically. The strategic focus of the subject enables analysis of impacts on logistics activities including disruptive forces such as geopolitical issues and the effect and adoption of emerging technologies. The necessity of the centrality of the customer to effective and efficient logistics operations is an important feature of this subject, as is the decision-making when trade-offs are required between customer service and costs.
