This postgraduate course in Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management (OHSEM) offers a qualification that provides a sound business and technical basis to support the implementation of hazard identification, risk assessment and control measures, and to monitor their effectiveness. This course includes study in the areas of environmental assessment and modelling, auditing, environmental and safety law, epidemiology and research methods. The capstone unit for the Masters is a work-related research project.
While focusing on safety and environmental responsibility, the OHSEM courses address generic managerial skills and issues applicable across the spectrum of business administration.
The increasing professionalisation of OHSE and the recent introduction of national legislation have created growing demand for this new specialisation. Graduates of this course will have enhanced employment opportunities in both the public and private sectors.
OHSE professional practitioners are in demand because of the increasing focus on the management of occupational health, safety and environmental processes in accordance with the law and regulatory requirements. Graduates of this course are likely to have increased opportunities across a wide range of professions and industries.
Applicants are required to have completed an undergraduate degree in any discipline or a Graduate Certificate in OHSEM or an equivalent course.
Applicants without a degree who have appropriate professional work experience may be considered for entry at the Graduate Certificate in OHSEM.
IELTS minimum score of 6.5
All Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management students are advised to start the course with the introductory unit OHSE601 Principles of OHSE Management.
To qualify for the award of Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management students must complete eight units.
RPL or Credit may be granted according to ACU policies and applicants are advised to contact the Course Administrator.
Eligible OUA students can access the government loan scheme known as FEE-HELP. You pay back the loan through your taxes once your income reaches a minimum threshold.
Who can access it?
- Australian citizens who will undertake, in Australia, at least one unit of study contributing to their course
- Permanent humanitarian visa holders who will be resident in Australia for the duration of their unit
- Permanent visa holders who are undertaking bridging study for overseas-trained professionals, and will be resident in Australia for the duration of their study
- Credit card (Visa and MasterCard)
- Money order

For students who commenced the Master of Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management prior to 2017, please take note of the following:
- Do not enrol into MGMT621 Management of Change if you have successfully completed OHSE622 OHSE Epidemiology.
- Do not enrol into MGMT627 Project Management if you have successfully completed OHSE621 Toxicology and Occupational Hygiene.
