Engineer (Chemical and Material)
A specialised type of engineer, Chemical and Material Engineers work with chemical systems in a variety of capacities. They may plan for the construction of chemical plans, outline specifications for chemical processing systems, work on the development of chemically-intensive consumer products, or conduct research into the properties and possible commercial applications of metals, ceramics, and other materials.
Duties and tasks
- Adjusting and repairing chemical and lab equipment as needed
- Conducting laboratory work to determine the efficiency of a particular chemical process, operation, or product
- Conducting research into the properties or viability of various chemical substances
- Designing chemical processing systems
- Ensuring laboratories and product development centre's are kept up-to-date and to code with the specifications outlined by relevant governmental agencies
- Offering advice to product developers about commercial, chemical, and engineering applications of products
- Testing for chemical changes and effects

Working conditions
Chemical and Material Engineers sometimes work in traditional office settings, either as part of a specific engineering firm or as part of an in-house chemical engineering department of a larger company or organisation.
