About this subject

  • On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:

    1. Communicate the role of critical care and retrieval in the wider health system to a diverse audience.
    2. Justify advanced assessment, clinical decision making and management of patients presenting with a range of acute or complex emergency presentations.
    3. Apply principles of oxygenation and ventilation to develop ventilatory strategies across a range of complex medical and trauma conditions in critically ill patients.
    4. Critically reflect on decision making required to manage high acuity end emergent presentations.

Core

  • TAS-CCR-GDI-2026 - Graduate Diploma of Advanced Practice (Critical Care and Retrieval)
  • TAS-CCR-MAS-2026 - Master of Advanced Practice (Critical Care and Retrieval)

Elective

  • TAS-CUC-GDI-2026 - Graduate Diploma of Advanced Practice (Community and Urgent Care)
  • TAS-CUC-MAS-2026 - Master of Advanced Practice (Community and Urgent Care)

You must either have successfully completed the following subject(s) before starting this subject, or currently be enrolled in the following subject(s) in a prior study period; or enrol in the following subject(s) to study prior to this subject:

Additional requirements

  • Other requirements - Teaching Arrangement: 8 hours per week Self-directed learning. Three days intensive (24 hours) On Campus practical workshop (Optional) This subject has some clinically focused elements that explore advanced airway management and specific surgical interventions. The opportunity to experience and practice specific critical care skills is provided in a 3-day intensive workshop, where a capped attendance to the University of Tasmania Hobart Campus is required, at the student's own expense. Note: this is optional.
