The circular economy creates business value by designing out waste, keeping products and materials in use, and supporting the regeneration of natural systems. As organisations face growing environmental, social, economic, and regulatory challenges, circular economy strategies are emerging as important drivers of innovation, competitiveness, and long-term value creation. This subject examines the principles, concepts, and application of the circular economy, focusing on strategies that decouple economic value creation from resource consumption and waste generation. Through critical analysis of circular product and service design, business models, and supply chain strategies, you will examine how organisations create, capture, and sustain value within circular systems. Drawing on contemporary frameworks, standards, policies, case studies, and practical applications, you will evaluate the opportunities and challenges associated with implementing circular economy initiatives across diverse organisational contexts. By the end of the subject, you will be able to assess the strategic and operational implications of circular economy practices and identify how they can drive innovation, enhance value creation, and contribute to environmental sustainability and social wellbeing.
