About this subject
By the end of this 12-week subject, you'll be able to:
- Examine how people’s nutritional status is impacted in different life stages. Explain the specific physiological changes that have this impact.
- Describe the nutritional requirements of people at different life stages and the differences between these requirements.
- Describe the specific risk factors affecting people at each life stage and the differences between these risk factors.
- Evaluate the nutritional needs of special populations including Indigenous communities, and people with major non- communicable health conditions including: obesity; cancer; diabetes; and cardiovascular disease.
- Determine suitable dietary intervention strategies for the nutritional management of sports people. Justify your choice by referring to the evidence.
- A guide to the topics you will explore in this subject will be provided in your study materials.
Lifespan Nutrition (NUTR2005A) examines the range of nutritional requirements that impact populations, communities and individuals at particular life stages including pre-conception, pregnancy, during lactation, early childhood, adolescence, adulthood and ageing populations, as well as the specific issues affecting Indigenous communities, sports people and other at-risk populations. This subject provides an overview of dietary patterns and eating habits by age group and dietary recommendations for optimal nutrition to maintain wellbeing at each life stage.
