Human Structure & Physiology 2

About this subject

  • By the end of this 12-week subject, you'll be able to:

    1. Recognise and understand the major components of the nervous system (NS), as well as discuss its structure, function and homeostatic mechanisms.
    2. Describe and relate the NS to the physiology of pain, temperature and neural regulation of the body.
    3. Identify and understand the structure and function of the sense organs, including the processes of olfaction, gustation, vision, hearing and equilibrium.
    4. Recognise and understand the major components of the digestive system. Explain the structure, function and homeostatic mechanisms of the digestive system including the physiological processes of digestion, absorption, transport, metabolism and elimination.
    5. Identify and understand the major components of the endocrine, urinary, lymphatic/immune and reproductive systems. In addition, describe the role of these systems in key physiological process that contribute to protection, elimination and reproduction.
    6. Apply, analyse and understand human systems integration and begin to explore the impact of disturbances in Homeostasis and disruption of normal function. Also, apply and analyse the impact of disturbances in homeostasis using scientific literature.
