About this subject
By the end of this 12-week subject, you'll be able to:
- Review appropriate design thinking models to identify meaningful user experiences.
- Investigate how design thinking creates value and competitive commercial advantage.
- Examine the concepts of usability, utility and sustainability in relationship to design practice.
- Identify audiences and define a market need related to package design within the community.
- Experiment with packaging design strategies in the context of a community need.
- Produce a holistic and sustainable packaging design solution that meets the creative and/or technical requirements of the design brief in 2D and 3D forms.
- A guide to the topics you will explore in this subject will be provided in your study materials.
Form and Insight is a theoretical and practice based subject that encourages consideration to audience, purpose and context. It introduces students to traditional and non-traditional, digital, 2D and 3D design specifically in the area of packaging with a strong emphasis on sustainability and social responsibility. Students will use persona and narrative creation to inform practical outcomes that fuse commercial reality with design thinking tools to deliver an empathic, holistic solution from point of sale through to consumer use, and finally, disposal.
