About this subject
By the end of this 12-week subject, you'll be able to:
- Explain the main methods of psychological research, and their implications for ethical research.
- Describe the basic structure and function of the nervous system and its role in human behaviour.
- Describe the basic cognitive processes involved in sensation, perception, cognition and intelligence.
- Apply knowledge of the principles underlying human learning, motivation and emotion to enhance study skills and strategies.
- A guide to the topics you will explore in this unit will be provided in your study materials
In this subject you will gain further understanding of the methods and concepts of psychology with a focus on the biological bases of behaviour. There will be a particular focus on the neurological structures and function that underly human behaviour, including the neuron and the brain, as well as their impact on human behaviour, our states of consciousness, memory, language, thinking, intelligence, and learning. Together with Fundamentals of Personal and Social Behaviour, this subject provides you with sufficient background for further studies in psychology.
