By the end of this 12-week subject, you'll be able to:
- Critically analyse and evaluate appropriate evidence-based supports for autistic individuals.
- Design and apply best-practice contemporary strategies for supporting learning, social and sensory profiles of autistic individuals.
- Collaborate with multiple stakeholders in the autistic community to provide evidence-based support.
- Apply a person-centred approach to support autistic individuals and their community in multiple settings.
- Analyse contemporary societies’ understanding and support for autistic individuals and their community, including stigma and bias.
- Apply research, synthesis, analytical and communication skills in the area of autism.
- A guide to the topics you will explore in this subject will be provided in your study materials.
Autism Contemporary Practices builds on previous skills and knowledge gained in the subject PersonCentred – Autism as the prerequisite learning. In this subject, you will synthesise current theoretical practices using a person-centred approach to engage in innovative actions, exploring the unique strengths and learning requirements of autistic individuals. You will design contemporary strategies to best support autistic individuals within your broader context using evidence-based research. In addition, you will unpack the positive impact autistic individuals have within the wider community to address the stigma and bias experienced. As a result, you will better understand autism contemporary practices and the lived experience of autistic individuals.
