On successful completion of the subject you should be able to:

  1. formulate the concepts of quality, safety and risk management within health care delivery
  2. communicate the impact of systems and human interactions on the likelihood of errors and adverse events
  3. establish the processes for managing clinical risk, investigating errors and utilising data to improve patient safety
  4. identify the opportunities for consumers to contribute to safety and quality in healthcare
  5. develop the methods and tools that can be used to measure and improve quality of care.

Description

This subject is designed to foster knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles and practices of continuous improvement in a range of healthcare settings. Participants will develop an understanding of creative, effective and practical approaches to implementing quality and safety practices in the workplace. As well, evidence–based leadership and change management strategies in the workplace will be explored.

Assessments

These assessments allow students to demonstrate knowledge and understanding, analysis and evaluation skills and application of theoretical concepts to practice. Additionally, these assessments allow students to further develop academic and professional communication skills. Detailed feedback is provided on all assessments in addition to the marking rubrics to facilitate student learning and achievement of unit learning outcomes.
