About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- using constructive feedback from supervisors and teachers, critique, design and facilitate assessments, demonstrating an understanding of assessment strategies, including informal and formal, diagnostic, formative and summative approaches to assess student learning.
- interpret student data to evaluate student learning and apply processes to develop consistent and comparable judgements of student learning. Use student data to identify future learning goals, and potential opportunities and strategies to improve student learning, respond to students’ needs and build wellbeing and developing agency of diverse students.
- create effective methods of maintaining accurate and reliable assessment records and for ways to report to students, parents/carers and colleagues the strategies, processes, findings and recommendations resulting from assessment activities.
- evaluate and apply a growing repertoire of strategies of managing students with challenging behaviour. Articulate the connections between theory, understanding students, and technical skill in proactively planning and effectively responding to challenging student behaviours.
- apply professional practices, knowledge, skills, and technologies, to support effective learning and teaching through contributing to positive in-person and digital learning environments that are designed to support the needs, wellbeing and developing agency of diverse students. Seek and apply feedback through engaging with reflective processes to improve teaching knowledge and skill.

This is the third in the suite of professional experience subjects that includes a practical component (20 days of placement in a school). The subject will allow you to extend your developing knowledge and skills in the classroom by considering advanced assessment practices, managing challenging behaviour and extending existing classroom skills, both through a theoretical and a practical lens. The professional experience practical assessment assesses your ability to further refine your knowledge and skills required for working in classrooms. All required clearances to work with children must be obtained and valid, and all other preparation requirements met. All assessment components must be passed in order to pass the subject.
