About this subject

  • At the completion of this subject students will be able to:

    1. demonstrate knowledge acquisition and development of literacy (skills, knowledge) in relation to children’s affective dispositions and identities.
    2. examine and critique theoretical perspectives, including sociocultural and cognitive processes, for the teaching, learning and assessment of reading and writing and how they respond to the learning strengths and needs of students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
    3. design and justify teaching, learning and assessment for teaching reading and writing linked to relevant curricula for young children.
    4. set teaching and learning goals for teaching reading and writing that provide achievable challenges for children of varying abilities and characteristics.
