About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge of the acquisition and development of reading and writing (skills, knowledge) in relation to children’s affective dispositions and identities.
- examine and critique theoretical perspectives, including sociocultural and cognitive processes, for the teaching, learning and assessment of reading and writing and how they relate to practice for a diverse group of students.
- design and justify teaching, learning and assessment for reading and writing linked to relevant curricula (Yr 1-6).

The focus of this subject is on pre-service teachers developing an in-depth understanding of how to extend children’s reading and writing. Teaching will be situated in the context of understanding different perspectives and theories about how children extend their literacy. This subject will prepare pre-service teachers with knowledge of the symbiotic relationship between reading, writing and creating.
