Master of Business Law

During this program, students will:

1. Critically analyse complex information, legal problems and policy concepts, applying legal reasoning and research to develop advanced legal solutions.
2. Apply legal reasoning, critical analysis and creative thinking to complex legal problems and policy issues in selected areas of law.
3. Demonstrate a high level of personal autonomy and accountability, integrating ethical principles into professional practice.
4. Apply specialised legal knowledge and technical skills to interpret and communicate complex concepts to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
5. Integrate advanced theoretical knowledge and critically reflect on legal theory, professional practice and scholarship.
6. Communicate legal knowledge, skills and concepts effectively with clients and other professionals in interprofessional contexts.
7. Critically evaluate selected areas of law from historical and theoretical perspectives while demonstrating cultural awareness.

The Master of Business Law is designed for business professionals who want to build advanced legal knowledge without becoming practising lawyers. The course develops legal literacy, commercial awareness and the ability to identify legal risks and obligations across business contexts, with electives spanning areas such as contract law, property law, competition law, taxation and corporate governance.

Award requirements

To be eligible to receive the Master of Business Law, students must complete the equivalent of 8 units (96 credit points), comprising:

• 2 core units (24 credit points); and
• 6 law elective units (72 credit points).

Students may be eligible to exit with the Graduate Certificate in Business Law after completing the equivalent of 4 units (48 credit points), comprising 1 core unit and 3 electives If admitted without a Bachelor degree in Law or any 4 elective units if admitted with a Bachelor degree in Law.

To gain entry into the Master of Business Law online, you must have:

• A Bachelor degree in any discipline with a minimum Credit average, or equivalent; or
• A Bachelor degree in any discipline, or equivalent, and two years of documented relevant professional experience; AND
• Students also need to be proficient in English.

SCU Online may recognise relevant professional experience and academic qualifications through Recognition of Prior Learning. Applicants are encouraged to provide supporting evidence when applying.
