Introduction to Programming and the UNIX Environment

This subject is designed to provide you with hands on practical experience developing software in a project environment. You work in teams and will complete projects from inception to implementation.
This subject includes a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/ or community is integral to your experience.
As the project teams and projects will be assigned during the first week all enrolled students are advised to engage with the subject from the beginning of week 1.

This subject introduces the concepts of software design and development in the context of computer programming. You will learn to design and build programs for applied technology using the Python language and how to apply programming practices in industry using concepts such as computational efficiency, coding best practice, interfacing, and documenting.

Programming Principles

This subject will enable students to learn how to write an individualised exercise program to meet those needs. Students will be shown the fundamentals of exercise prescription and delivery to provide a basic program for healthy individuals. Concepts of progression and program modification will be identified.

Fundamentals of Exercise Programming

The Object-Oriented (OO) paradigm is a significant influence in software development in the computer industry. It divides a system into objects that exist in the model of the application domain. In this subject, students will be introduced to OO concepts, terminologies, syntax and programming using Java. Topics covered include classes and objects, inheritance, object attributes and methods, overloaded methods, the use of the Unified Modelling Language (UML) for representing these concepts, primitive data types, flow of control, basic input/output, arrays, Java library class, and exception handling. Some software engineering principles are included: program design, algorithm for solving a problem and version control. This subject is designed as inclusive as possible for undergraduate/diploma students.

Object-Oriented Programming Fundamentals

This subject is one in a suite of three undergraduate Option units designed to provide a specialisation in the use of technologies for learning and learning design. This unit aims to develop a student’s content and pedagogical knowledge related to using coding as part of the Technologies curriculum. Students will cultivate content knowledge through developing an understanding of computational thinking, sequence, branching, and iteration as they design algorithms and code their solutions using programming environments commonly used in schools. Pedagogical content knowledge will be developed through students developing learning–experience implementation plans in the Technologies area for their own future students and appropriate to their degree (i.e. early childhood, primary or secondary).
