Graduate Certificate in Digital Learning

The Graduate Certificate in Accounting is a course that will service the needs of students requiring four or fewer units for accreditation with the professional accounting bodies. It can serve as an entry and exit point for the Master of Professional Accounting. The course comprises four units (that is 24 credit points) and is usually used to supplement existing studies in accounting to satisfy the entry requirements of the professional accounting organisations. Subjects are drawn from the Master of Professional Accounting and may cover introductory as well as advanced units in accounting, finance, systems, law, auditing, economics and business statistics.Please Note: This program can only be studied part time.

This subject is suited to non-law students and provides a comprehensive introduction to legal studies, starting you on the path to achieving an understanding of how legal systems operate in Australia and elsewhere. Introduction to Legal Studies

Public speaking is a vital skill in almost every field. Whether it’s a speech to an audience of thousands, a pitch presentation to a client, or a tea room farewell to an office colleague, at some stage in your career you will be required to stand in front of an audience and deliver a coherent speech. The way you present yourself to your audience affects the way they see you. If you are able to express your ideas confidently, you will be seen as a stronger leader, a proactive citizen, and a more valuable employee.In this subject you will be trained in effective, oral communication skills (in English), for public presentation in a variety of “real world” environments and online. You will develop skills in speech writing and analysis, vocal techniques and body language, and the use of appropriate presentation technologies.

Since ancient times, magic and religion have shared a common belief in the supernatural and other-worldly encounters; yet their histories tell a story of acrimony and dissent.This unit investigates how magic and the supernatural have been accepted, understood and practised in a range of historical and social contexts.You will explore such themes as natural, ritual and demonic magic, necromancy, spirits, mediums and séances, fictional wizards and enchantment.Underpinning the study will be an examination of the nature and use of magic and its relation to religion, religious ideologies, science and entertainment.

Magic and the Supernatural in History and Culture

This unit introduces three of the enduring themes of philosophy: namely (i) Freedom, Fatalism and Determinism, (ii) the Self and (iii) the Ethical Life.In this unit you will begin by considering whether we are genuinely free to shape our futures or whether fatalism about the future might be true. The unit then considers the nature of the self. We ask what is the self and where is it located? Finally, in the third module, you will examine important philosophical discussions of ethics by thinkers such as Aristotle, Kant and John Stuart Mill.The aim of the unit is to provide you with an overview and introduction to key philosophical questions that are central to the very idea of being human.

Introduction to Philosophy A: The Examined Life

Philosophers have thought deeply about these issues in the sub-disciplines of metaphysics and epistemology (theory of knowledge).In this unit you will examine philosophers’ attempts, over thousands of years, to answer the big questions concerning the fundamental structure of reality, and our knowledge of reality. Questions such as: Does God exist? What is the nature of time? Is time travel possible? What is the relationship between mind and body? Can we be sure that we know anything? What is the structure of our knowledge? Does science give us truth? Can we infer from the past to the future?Join an in-depth discussion and the deep exploration of ideas in this foundation unit.

Introduction to Philosophy B: Metaphysics and Theory of Knowledge

Culturally-responsive counselling constitutes an important and expanding area of counselling theory and practice. This aspect of counselling requires counsellors to understand the impact that their culturally-learned assumptions, and those of their clients, have on therapy and its outcomes.This unit will increase your awareness of, and skills relevant to, working with clients from a diverse range of cultural belonging. With a focus on Indigenous, migrant, neurodiverse and LGBTQI+ populations, you will enhance your understanding of culturally-responsive assessment and practice, whilst engaging in self-reflexive practice.

Culturally Responsive Counselling

The spaces in which we live, work and play are profoundly influenced by the way land is used and developed. By setting visions and policies for building and land use, planning professionals play a significant role in creating these spaces.This subject provides an introduction to the language and processes of planning in relation to land use and built form. Different land-use and development situations will be explored, including how they interact with broader societal contexts.This will provide a deeper understanding of planning practice, and its real-world influence.

They envisage the future of a local environment and shape land use and development practice.Making plans requires a diverse skill set, including site analysis, data analysis, mapping, plan drawing, and code writing. You will examine the many processes that shape landscapes, learn how to read and interpret landscapes, understand how different materials and processes influence landscapes and learn about the way landforms and processes can be incorporated into environmental understanding.Questions posed throughout the subject are: what are the key components of a landscape and what are the processes that act and interact to shape landscapes over a range of temporal and spatial scales.
