The LGM350 Unit is an introductory unit in the important field of Retail and Service Logistics operations and draws upon, and relates it to, selected theories and applications of service management, logistics, supply chain management, business strategy, and applications of logistics and supply chain management to selected introductory aspects of tourism and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions).

The overall aim of the Unit is to increase your understanding of selected principles and concepts of retail and service logistics operations, and to be able to appreciate and apply selected fundamental techniques and processes of retail logistics operations in a competitive retail and service environment, together with an introduction to relevant applications to the tourism and hospitality industry.

At the conclusion of this unit you should be able to:

  1. Discuss and demonstrate your understanding of selected principles and concepts of effective and efficient retail and service logistics management
  2. Demonstrate a strategic and operational awareness of the management of selected retail and tourism and hospitality services in various market situations
  3. Understand the selected decision areas of retail logistics operations and supply chain management within the focus business, and the nature and impact of these operational decisions
  4. Assess the impacts of the selected retail trends applicable to the focus business’ major logistics / supply chain activities, and how these impacts may be effectively and efficiently managed
  5. Identify those logistics, demand chain, value chain and supply chain factors which focus businesses need to consider when assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of their retail, service, tourism or hospitality operations.
