Driver (Bus and Coach)

Bus and Coach Drivers carry passengers along scheduled routes on buses or for travel or recreational needs to specified locations. They must be able to operate a large vehicle, adhering to all traffic and safety laws and maintaining accurate schedule of stops.

Duties and tasks

  • Adhere to all traffic laws and special instructions for buses and large vehicles
  • Conduct basic inspection of vehicles and notify management of repairs or maintenance needs
  • Make announcements and provide commentary for specialised tours
  • Operate heating and cooling systems on coaches and buses and manually activate opening and closing doors for passengers in safe and effective manner
  • Process bus and coach fares by operating electronic entry systems or manually provide change and tickets to passengers; collect payment for coach services in advance
  • Provide information of route schedules and destinations for passengers
  • Travel along scheduled routes in a timely manner, watching for signs of passenger pick-up and drop-off needs

Working conditions

Bus and Coach Drivers spend most of their time driving passengers to and from destinations.
