Commercial Cleaner

Commercial Cleaners use heavy duty cleaning equipment to provide serious cleaning to commercial buildings and areas. They may clean construction areas, industrial workshops, schools, offices and hospitals. They are required to perform manual work with large machines and cleaning supplies.

Duties and tasks

  • Clean hard to reach places in the building such as ceilings, walls, pipes and fixtures to remove dust and build-up, and removing residues from machines, furnaces, boilers, tanks and other equipment located in the building
  • Manage time effectively to clean all areas needed in an allotted amount of time
  • Provide deep cleaning and sanitise common areas in public or private areas including public restrooms
  • Remove stains and spills using acids and cleaners to wash away areas
  • Stock and refill necessary items in common spaces such as tissue, soap, toilet paper and remove waste and recycled materials
  • Vacuum, mop, scrub, wax and polish floors, carpet and ground areas using industrial vacuum cleaners and other cleaning equipment
  • Wash outside of buildings using a variety of cleaning supplies and techniques such as sand-blasting

Working conditions

Commercial Cleaners typically work early mornings, evenings and after regular work hours in order to clean the entire building without many people using the space. They typically work Mondays to Fridays, but may work on weekends to provide additional heavy cleaning that is hard to get to during the regular week. They should be able to spend long periods of time on their feet and be able to handle large machinery and unpleasant circumstances while cleaning.
