Labourer (Garden and Nursery)

Garden and Nursery Labourer's plant and maintain a variety of plants and gardens in residential or public gardens or nurseries. They should have strong knowledge of plant and flower species and the conditions required for them to thrive in.

Duties and tasks

  • Install sprinkler and irrigation system and inform clients of proper plant maintenance
  • Plant, collect and package flowers, plants and trees for sale
  • Plant, water, and transport flowers, plants, trees and seed and mow lawns and grass areas
  • Remove weeds and garbage from garden areas and maintain overall appearance
  • Supplement soil and nutrients to plants when needed
  • Use a variety of gardening tools and equipment to maintain gardens
  • Work with landscaper or head gardener to properly place plants, trees, flowers and additional materials in location suitable for plant life to thrive and look aesthetically pleasing according to clients wishes

Working conditions

Garden and Nursery Labourer's typically work Monday to Fridays but may have varied schedules according clients needs and schedules. They must perform manual labour and lift objects and should be able to work for long hours outdoors in sometimes hot and uncomfortable working conditions.
