About this subject
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of translational research principles and their relevance to own practice.
- Appraise evidence and analyse the gaps between evidence-based practice and own practice.
- Discuss barriers and formulate strategies that can be used to translate research into practice.
- Apply the principles of knowledge translation to examine key factors that influence the adoption of research in your context.
- Module 1- (Weeks 1-4) Translational research: what is it and why is it important?
- Module 2- (Weeks 5-8) Barriers to implementing research
- Module 3-(Weeks 9-11) Strategies for translating research into practice
- Weeks 12-13 Review of all modules
This subject provides a framework for understanding the links between knowledge and practice. It is about considering the when, why and, importantly, how of translational research in practice. It is also designed to encourage the development of the capacity of health service leaders to identify and evaluate emerging knowledge relevant to their practice, and to implement change based on this knowledge within their sphere of influence.
