About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, the student should be able to:
- Critically explore the holistic impact of dementia on people living with the condition and families/supporters
- Critically analyse therapeutic options for people living with dementia at different stages of the condition
- Investigate interpersonal, social and environmental factors which impact on the quality of life and wellbeing of people with dementia in a variety of settings and global contexts
- Describe and evaluate the use of holistic assessment processes in the care and support of people living with dementia
- Critically analyse a range of strategies aimed at fostering enabling communities and maintaining civic engagement for people living with dementia
- Week 1 - Introduction to CAD501
- Weeks 2-3 - Module 1: Core Concepts in Dementia
- Weeks 4-5 - Module 2: Palliative Care Principles
- Weeks 6-7 - Module 3: Person-Centred Care Principles and Communication
- Weeks 8-9 - Module 4: Challenges of Dementia and Holistic Assessment
- Weeks 10-11 - Module 5: Rights-Based Approach
- Weeks 12-13 - MyContext Assignment
This subject examines social, therapeutic and environmental factors influencing the health and wellbeing of people with dementia, and their carers. The impact of dementia on individuals, and provision for the rights and needs of people with dementia, are the focus of the curriculum. Students are assessed both online for the content modules, and in the form of a written MyContext assignment requiring the student to directly relate the course material to their individual professional and/or personal context.
