About this subject
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:

- Critically reflect on epidemiological and aetiological models that underpin addiction.
- Explore the effects of addiction and psychoactive substances on the central nervous system.
- Articulate the principles that underlie substance use, addiction and withdrawal.

This subject examines the complex needs of the person requiring Addiction Services. You will explore epidemiological and aetiological models relating to substance use and identify principles of dependence within a range of maladaptive behaviours. In addition, you will extend your knowledge and understanding of treatment approaches, withdrawal management and toxicology.

Additional requirements
- Other requirements - Teaching Arrangement: You are expected to devote around 10 hours per week to the study materials, assessment tasks and self-directed learning. There are 5 x 1-hour online webinars during the study period.
Study load
- 0.125 EFTSL
- This is in the range of 10 to 12 hours of study each week.
