On completion of this course students should be able to achieve the following learning outcomes:
1. Solve mathematical problems relating to polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions.
2. Apply trigonometric identities and functions to solve practical mathematical problems.
3. Apply concepts related to the theory of sequences and series.
4. Apply concepts relating to matrices and systems of linear equations.
5. Communicate theoretical concepts to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Principles of Mathematics is a foundational mathematics course. It is intended to provide the fundamental skills necessary to undertake more advanced mathematical study. Principles of Mathematics covers the areas of algebra, trigonometry, polynomials and equations. It is designed to further students’ mathematical content knowledge as well as their skills in communicating complex mathematical knowledge and ideas.
