About this subject
On completion of this subject, students should be able to achieve the following learning outcomes:
1. Critically evaluate qualitative and quantitative research methods for their applicability to business contexts.
2. Design a methodological approach appropriate to a given business challenge.
3. Synthesise evidence from academic, industry and stakeholder sources to inform recommendations for business challenges.
4. Communicate research findings and recommendations to specialist and nonspecialist audiences.
5. Critically reflect on and apply ethical considerations in business research and advisory practice, including the responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence.

This subject equips students with the research and analytical skills required to address real-world business challenges within a business advisory framework. Students critically evaluate and apply a range of qualitative and quantitative research methods commonly employed in business problem-solving, organisational decision-making, and professional advisory practice. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based ethical decision-making, stakeholder analysis, and the effective communication of findings and recommendations. The subjec prepares students for BUSN5910 Business Advisory Project by developing the necessary methodological foundations and professional skills.
- Prepare a structured stakeholder interview schedule based on a simulated project brief and supporting company documents. (10%)
- Conduct a 10-minute face-to-face discovery interview with a tutor acting as a simulated client, followed by a 5-minute reflective debrief. (20%)
- Produce a professional situation assessment memo (1,500 words) diagnosing the core business challenge using primary (Assessment 2 discovery interview) and secondary research evidence, structured using the Pyramid Principle. (40%)
- Deliver a 15-minute advisory pitch to a simulated client panel, followed by individual Q&A. (30%)
