- Assess economic systems within the context of resource allocation.
- Apply and appraise the fundamental principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics.
- Distinguish different types of market structures, including perfect competition, monopolistic competition, monopoly, and oligopoly.
- Determine the effect of changes in macroeconomic indicators on business activity and evaluate the effect of monetary and fiscal policy changes on the business environment.
- Interpret regulatory and political environments and how they impact on business.
- A guide to the topics you will explore in this subject will be provided in your study materials.
Management makes rational decisions that take cognisance of the complex, competitive and often volatile economic environment in which a business operates. In this subject, you will critically assess the micro and macroeconomic context needed for making these decisions. You will evaluate current economic issues and events. You will critically assess the potential impact of regulatory and economy- wide changes to business environments, and will apply economic models to make decisions about the optimal allocation of business resources. In your evaluation of the macroeconomic environment, you will consider key variables such as GDP, inflation, unemployment, trade balance and exchange rate and will acknowledge how the authorities, in particular government and the Central Bank apply fiscal and monetary policies in an attempt to achieve sound macroeconomic management.
