This subject focuses on understanding the major chronic diseases linked to a range of biological, behavioural, socio-economic, and environmental risk factors. You will explore how these factors contribute to the onset and progression of chronic conditions. By identifying and analysing these risk factors, you will gain insights into their impact on health. The subject will also require you to analyse specific behavioural risk factors associated with noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). You will investigate how various lifestyle choices and behaviours contribute to the development and management of chronic diseases, offering a comprehensive view of their implications. Furthermore, you will examine health education and environmental interventions designed to facilitate lifestyle and behavioural changes. These interventions are critical for preventing, controlling, and managing NCDs. You will explore various strategies that aim to improve health outcomes through effective changes in behaviour and environment. A key component of the subject involves demonstrating appropriate communication skills. You will practice advocating for disease prevention, ensuring you can ethically and effectively promote health strategies and influence positive changes in health behaviour.
